I had this discussion with my fiancee after we had both read an article on male rape on Cracked of all places, and I can came to a sort of idea, that I want to see if you think it sounds realistic.
As we all know, rape is more on the psychological side than the physicality of the act. Physical wounds can most of the time heal, but the damage to the mind takes a lot more shaking off. However, I think it takes men less time to come to terms with it, because it's an unlikely scenario to happen often.
Whether people like to admit it or not, in general, men are stronger than women. Obviously there are examples on both side of this not being the case, but I am talking about the majority. I'm not very strong at all, and pretty much every man I know can beat me in an arm wrestle... Yet I have never been beaten by a woman. I think this is what gets in the mind of a woman. If a man holds her down and rapes her, it will be very difficult, almost impossible to not think it could happen again since most men could overpower her. Now with your average man, it's unlikely that if he was overpowered by a woman and raped, that it will happen again, as I can't see it being likely that a woman who just happens to be very strong is also a rapist, so men can more likely be in the same situation again (or whatever the circumstances were leading up to the rape) and not have to be completely concerned that the same thing will happen again. However, if a woman was raped walking home at night, she will most likely be very uncomfortable doing whenever in her life.
I'm obviously not taking in to account man on man rape. Speaking for myself, for the reasons above, I'd be able to get over being raped by a woman, but not if I was raped by a man, simply because I am not that strong.
